The 2026 CALE Annual Conference will be held on December 5 (Saturday) and 6 (Sunday), 2026.
Please note that only Session III will be conducted in English.
This year, many alumni will once again join us as presenters.
In addition, on December 6, 2026 (Sunday) evening, we will launch the Alumni & Partners Gathering as an annual official event that brings together alumni, current students, university members, legal professionals, corporate partners, and others connected to CALE. Designed as a space to reconnect with familiar faces and to foster new relationships, the gathering warmly welcomes all members of our community.

11:00-18:00 Session I: Workshop “Comparative Legal Perspectives on the Status and Social Protection of Digital Platform Workers” (in Japanese)
The diversification of work arrangements is prompting a reexamination of the traditional dichotomy between employment and self‑employment, as well as of core concepts such as worker status (including subordination) and the scope of social protection. In this session, speakers from Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, and Uzbekistan will discuss the legal status and social protection of digital platform workers, focusing on the social issues each country faces and the current state of legal and institutional developments.

Early‑career scholars who are about to complete, or have just completed, their doctoral degrees at Japanese universities will present a part of their doctoral dissertations.

14:00-16:00 Session III: Two Decades of Judicial Reform in Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam: Reflections from Within the Legal Systems (in English)
Experts from Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam who are at the forefront of their respective fields will share their experiences and insights on how the court systems in these countries have evolved over the past twenty years in response to the institutional and social demands accompanying the transition toward market‑oriented economies.
