Visit by H.E. Ken Saito, Minister of Justice, Japan

H.E. Ken Saito, Minister of Justice of Japan, visited the Nagoya University Center for Asian Legal Exchange (CALE) and the Research and Education Center for Japanese Law (CJL) on January 18, 2023. At the ceremony held in September 2022 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of CALE’s establishment, the CALE received a special letter of appreciation from the Minister of Justice for our longstanding legal cooperation activities. We paid a courtesy visit to Minister Saito earlier in December 2022 to express our gratitude.

During Minister Saito’s visit to CALE, Assistant Professor Yuki Kawarai (in charge of Japanese language education) and Assistant Professor Yushi Kasaya (in charge of Japanese law education), who have experience teaching at the CJL, explained the education contents provided at the CJL, and Minister Saito had a chance to communicate with the CJL students. Particularly, Minister Saito asked questions to Uzbek students, such as how many hours a day they study and why they decided to study Japanese law via online connecting with CJL Uzbekistan. Graduate students and exchange students from CJL who are studying in Japan, as well as a graduate who works at a Japanese company, joined the meeting and expressed their vision of future perspectives. Minister Saito was impressed by the international students’ high aspirations and excellent studies. He encouraged them to continue their efforts in contributing to their countries and strengthening friendly relations with Japan.
