CALE and National Centre for Human Rights of Uzbekistan (NHRC) signed MOU on academic cooperation

On July 8, 2021 CALE signed an MOU on academic cooperation with the Uzbekistan’s National Centre for Human Rights (NCHR).

The NCHR was established by the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan in 1996. Its main functions are as follows. 1. dissemination of information on human rights and promotion of human rights education; 2. co-operation with all foreign and international human rights institution and organizations concerned; 3. research and analysis of the human rights situation within the country; 4. investigation of complaints received (in co-operation with the Ombudsman Office).

CALE has set up initial contacts with NCHR since 2019 and co-hosted several international conferences and workshops. This MOU is the result of ongoing academic exchange between the two institutions. Uzbekistan is one of CALE’s main research targets, and the latest legal information is available through NCHR. Director Akmal Saidov is currently the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Parliament) of Uzbekistan and he is one of the drafters of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

By signing the MOU, we aim to deepen cooperation including via exchange of research data and laws in the fields of constitutionalism, international law, and human rights. CALE and NHRC intend to hold joint programs, seminars, workshops, exchange researchers, and promote publications.
