Dr. Ma Ma Thant received 2026 Nagoya University Award for Contributions to International Exchange
We are delighted to share that Dr. Ma Ma Thant, a GSL graduate, received the 2026 Nagoya University Award for Contributions to International Exchange. The award ceremony was held on October 17, 2026.
After earning her LL.D. from Nagoya University in 2012, she worked at the Nagoya University Myanmar-Japan Legal Research Center located at the University of Yangon, Myanmar, from 2013 to 2024. This award recognizes her outstanding contributions to the establishment and operation of the Center, as well as her dedicated effort to the Nagoya University Alumni Association Myanmar Branch and the Myanmar Association of Japan Alumni.
The Center played an important role in promoting academic exchange between Myanmar and Japan through special lectures, library services, research activities, and student exchange programs. Although the Center was closed in September 2025 due to financial constraints, the academic and alumni networks it fostered continue to thrive. Dr. Ma Ma Thant remains a key person in maintaining these valuable connections.
Congratulations, Dr. Ma Ma Thant, on this well-deserved recognition. The award recognizes her longstanding commitment to fostering exchange and friendship between Myanmar and Japan.
